The mets sent down one of their best players from last year, Michael Conforto, not to long ago. The right fielder hit .270 last year with 9 homeruns in 56 games, and had some great moments in the league postseason. He began red hot as the 2016 season went on in the beginning hitting .365 in April, but then hit .169 in May and .119 in June. This slump caused his swing, and himself to not look like the Conforto we all know.
After Conforto got sent down, this would have Lagares fill in for Conforto, but he had a thumb injury at the time. Our go-to was Alejandro De Aza, who did not hit well either, which led to the call-up of Brandon Nimmo. This dude has got some pop, and is another young kid with talent, AND is off to a hot start. But now Lagares is back. We have 4 good outfielders with 3 positions. What if Conforto gets raging hot in triple A? What will happen? They want to platoon Lagares, but will they want to platoon 2 outfielders when everyone is back to there normal status? Is Nimmo just having beginners luck? Who knows. The future is upon us Met fans. It could be a road to heaven, or a rocky road back down to third place.
