Is It Business Or Is It Personal?

The topic of discussion for the last couple of weeks has been should we sign Reyes or should we stay away from him because of his transgressions? First off we need to establish two things 1. are we putting our morals aside for the sake of winning. 2. we enjoyed so much success last year we need to get back or its a failure. once we can figure these out the rest of the discussion should be cut and dry.

This article is about if Reyes will help us or if this is just a nostalgic feel good story not about the off the field stuff. I will leave my two cents on the off the field stuff and not divulge into it. No I do not believe Jose should be playing anywhere in the league. For anyone who says otherwise i would like to pose this questions. you value winning over morals? and do you support ray rice, Greg hardy etc. if you say you dont support those guys how can you support Reyes?

6 years 102 million is what Jose Reyes left us for. with that came all the expectations and the rebuild and tear down that the marlins do every so often. when he left he was uber dynamic, speed, some power, and off the charts charisma. bad teams, injuries and father time have drained Reyes of the things that made him the top of the order man we loved.

Fast forward to now. where Reyes doesn't have the range to play short nor the speed he used to have. with and upper 200 batting average since hes been gone inst really a far cry from what he gave us before the .337 bunt and pull batting title. what are we bringing him in for a “spark”? yes he has some speed and maybe he can hit the ball a little but we dont need a trip down memory lane with someone who may give us the same thing Matt Reynolds, Dilson Herrera, can give us. A quirk in Jose contract makes this a no risk gamble is that 1. we are paying him a prorated league minimum 2. if we keep him on the roster next year it will also be at the minimum. For all the love and energy he brought us in the past doesn't buy a second shot with me. Lastly hes going to take AB’s from Wilmer and if anyone who is a Met fan knows Wilmer needs constant at bats and why break up a good thing.
