Yet if you turned off your TV in the 4th inning, your New York Mets have comeback from a 6-run deficit and have defeated the Miami Marlins by a final score of 8-6!
Matt Harvey had a disappointing outing, and it started in the 2nd where the Marlins scored 3 runs thanks to a Chris Johnson RBI single, an Adeiny Hecheverria RBI double, and a RBI single from the pitcher Tom Koehler. New York had opportunities in the 2nd & 3rd, but could not score.
Things got messy in the 4th, with the bases loaded and 1 out, Martin Prado hit the baseball right back to Harvey and it should've been an inning ending double play, but Harvey threw the ball away from catcher Travis D'arnuad, allowing a run to score. Christian Yelich then brought in two runs with a single.
Matt Harvey's final line: 11 Hits, 6 Runs, 5 Earned Runs, and 4 Strikeouts in three and two thirds of an inning. It's the second straight start where Matt has gone 3.2 innings, but the 1st one was due to a rain delay in Washington.
Erik Goedell came in and got one out to end the 4th.
The Mets stormed back however, on a Travis D'arnuad solo shot in the 4th, and a Curtis Granderson solo home run in the 5th.
In the 6th things got interesting as the bases were loaded and no one out, and Travis D'arnuad legged out an infield hit, scoring Asdrubal Cabrera. However, the next batter, Kelly Johnson grounded into a double play, but nobody was out so the Mets tagged on another run to make it 6-4. The Mets would not score again in the inning.
In the 8th things got huge. Travis D'arnuad legged out another infield hit, and Lagares pinch-hit for reliever Jerry Blevins and got a sacrifice bunt down, moving Travis to second. Walker would walk again. Yoenis Cespedes doubled again, two runs scored an the Mets all of a sudden were leading 8-6!
Jeurys Familia found himself in trouble in the ninth, with runners at the corners with one out, but escaped the jam as he got Chris Johnson to ground into a game-ending double play!
Thanks to the Milwaukee Brewers, the Nationals got shutout 1-0, so we are now 4 games out of 1st!
Tomorrow Steven Matz and the Mets take on a struggling Wei Yen Chen and the Miami Marlins again in game 2 of the series. Can Steven bounce back from a few rough starts and win this one?
